Biggest yet for Felixstowe – Take 2
[ June 22, 2017 // Chris ]The world’s largest container ship, the 21,413teu OOCL Hong Kong, made its maiden call in Felixstowe on 22 June.
Trumping the call by the 20,568teu Madrid Maersk, operated on the 2M NEU2 Asia to Europe service, a few days earlier, the call also marked the return of OOCL to the UK’s largest container port after a 17 year absence. The OOCL Hong Kong was operating on the Ocean Alliance which also includes CMA CGM, Cosco Shipping and Evergreen Line.
Felixstowe chief executive, Clemence Cheng, said: “Our relationship with OOCL goes back 40 years and we are delighted to welcome them back to the Port of Felixstowe as part of the Ocean Alliance.”
