Box rates surge
[ March 2, 2012 // Chris ]The World Container Index (WCI), a joint venture between Drewry and The Cleartrade Exchange, showed a 114% increase in container freight rates in the westbound Asia-Europe corridor in the week beginning 27 February. Carriers in the key Asia-Europe headhaul trade had previously announced general rate increases in the region of US$700 to $800 per teu from 1 March.
Meanwhile CMA CGM announced a second step in its revenue recovery prgramme on the Asia to Europe trades , including an Emergency Revenue increase of $300 per teu ton be added on top of all quotations
The line also said it would implement a new rate increase on low value cargo including wood, paper, plastic and metals in the eastbound direction from North Europe to Far East effective from 19 March.
