Brittany Ferries finishes fleet renewal
[ April 7, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Brittany Ferries has completed its largest-ever fleet renewal programme – five ships in five years – with the arrival of its second hybrid ship.
Guillaume de Normandie is due to make her first commercial voyage on 18 April 2025 and will serve the company’s busiest Portsmouth to Caen (Ouistreham) route, which carries more than half of all freight traffic as well as around a million passengers a year.
Like sister ship Saint-Malo, she is powered by natural gas at sea, electricity or on a combination of the two. When entering Portsmouth harbour and while at quay she will be entirely emissions-free, driven exclusively by batteries.
Shore-connection work is due to be completed in Portsmouth in summer 2025, allowing her batteries to be re-charged while alongside.
