Bullet Express targets triple growth

Bullet Express is targeting threefold growth over the next four years and is currently tracking ahead of plan, says group chief executive, John McKail.

The Scottish-based transport, storage and international logistics business is planning accelerated growth after a year of strategic overhaul following private equity investment by Panoramic Growth Equity, Maven Capital Partners and Emerald Capital. It is targeting opportunities across the UK and internationally for its fleet, storage and global logistics services. It says that future growth will come from a combination of organic innovations, more contract-backed sales and a focused merger and acquisition strategy.

John McKail led the PE-backed buyout of the business in October 2023 after four years as managing director.

A month after the management buyout, Bullet secured an Excise Movement Guarantee  for excise goods moving within the UK or between the EU and Northern Ireland for imports and exports of beers, wines and spirits, opening up international markets including Chile, Argentina, Italy, Spain and France. It also opened a new bonded warehouse in September. The company also offers order picking and final mile delivery.

Another strong area of growth is contract distribution in sectors including aviation, FMCG, retail, electrical manufacture and construction.

Bullet operates shared user storage centres at Baillieston, Glasgow and Westway Park, Glasgow Airport with 34,000 pallets under management. It is also a member of the Pallex network.

Further investments in technology are underway, with an upgrade to the Vigo Transport Management System (TMS). This will support more customer and supplier integrations, streamlining operational and financial processes, along with analysis of shipment and vehicle data, including estimated time of arrival and optimisation of fuel consumption. Scanning regimes provide real-time tracking and electronic proof of delivery.
