Buying groups tops 100,000teu

[ October 1, 2021   //   ]

German retail freight buying group Xstaff said it would move more than 100,000teu of cargo for its members for the first time in 2021. At a conference of cargo owners in Dusseldorfon 30 September, it added that it planned to increase this to 180,000teu in 2023 and to 350,000teu in the long term. Earlier this year XStaff became one of a select group of forwarding and logistics organisations to charter its own ships from the Far East to Europe to break the logjam of container traffic that had built up at ports in China and Europe. However, a spokesman said that volumes on the chartered vessel made up only a very small share of the 100,000teu total for 2021, which as well as sea freight also included land, air and rail transport.
