Cargo booms at Leipzig
[ January 15, 2021 // Chris ]Cargo traffic at Leipzig/Halle Airport increased by 11.7% to 1.38 million tonnes in 2020, a new record high, said its operator, Mitteldeutsche Flughafen. Growth was particularly strong during the fourth quarter, increasing by 35% to 140,940 tonnes during December alone.
Passengers passing through its two gateways, Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports slumped 78.2.
Chief executive Götz Ahmelmann, said: “We can count ourselves lucky that we’re continuing to attract stable business to the whole corporate group, primarily through our air freight operations. We’re expecting further growth in freight in 2021 and also a gradual recovery in passenger numbers, as soon as the travel restrictions are eased.”
