CargoBeamer confirms second Italy/Calais service
[ August 26, 2021 // Chris ]CargoBeamer has confirmed that a second route from Domodossola, Italy to its recently opened intermodal terminal in Calais will start on 4 October. It will initially operate four round trips a week but will increase to six in December.
CargoBeamer opened its new terminal in Calais in the summer with a four round-trips a week service to and from Perpignan in southern France.
Services are operated by DB Cargo’s French arm, Euro Cargo Rail. Cargobeamer’s patented technology for semi-trailers move trailers on and off flatbed rail wagons using horizontal shifting technology. As well as offering quick loading and unloading – 20 minutes for an entire train – it avoids the need to use specially strengthened road trailers as no lifting is involved.
Matthias Schadler, Managing Director of CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH, said: “We at CargoBeamer are delighted to offer our customers yet another route between two highly attractive logistics locations. The addition of a route to Domodossola has played a firm role in our planning since the very beginning. Additionally, we will continue to extend our route and terminal network significantly in the coming years.”
