Cash-strapped Welsh government reopens Holyhead truck park

[ May 17, 2024   //   ]

The Welsh Government has reopened its HGV parking at Holyhead, following a temporary at the end of March due to budgetary pressures. Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates said that while there is no statutory requirement to provide the facility, since the closure of the nearby Roadking site there was a need for truck parking space He added that the Welsh government would continue to work with partners to find a long-term solution but that the Parc Cybi site would remain open until that time.

The Road Haulage Association welcomed the news, saying: “Drivers arriving in Holyhead desperately need rest and welfare facilities, which has been exacerbated since the closure of the facility. Holyhead Port is the second largest ro ro ferry port in the UK, yet there are no dedicated HGV facilities along the entire length of the A55, leaving drivers vulnerable and at risk to freight crime, from being forced to rest in the few laybys on the route.
