XPO launches Italy-Germany train

US-owned logistics company XPO has launched a multimodal route between Italy and Germany. It uses rail for 900km (560 miles) from Domodossola to Duisburg, mainly to carry retail goods, food, and automotive components., saving about 1 ton of CO2 for each load carried. XPO uses P400 semi-trailers, which are linked by GPS to a control tower that monitors operations in real time.
