Ceramic firms call for shipping probe

The ceramic industry is being affected by the unprecedented surge in freight rates, says the European Shippers Council.The imbalance in shipping following the Covid-19 pandemic have driven up costs and disrupted global trade to an extraordinary degree, it says. The Cerame-Unie trade group is calling on the European Commission to investigate the behaviour of shipping lines, as has already happened in the US, South Korea and China. In the European Union, shipping lines are regulated by the Consortium Block Exemption Regulation, which under these unprecedented circumstances may appear insufficient to efficiently oversee the market, it says.
