Channel decision upheld
[ May 20, 2014 // Chris ]The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has backed the Competition Commission’s earlier finding that Eurotunnel has an unfair position on the Channel market following the starting up of a ferry service in addition to its Channel Tunnel service. But Groupe Eurotunnel, which took over three ferries belonging to bankfrupt state operator Seafrance and rebranded them MyFerryLink, said that said that the CMA was seeking to justify the Competition Commission’s original analysis and that a material change in the market had occurred, with 12% growth since SeaFrance ceased its operations. Market growth has been far greater than the 2% predicted by CMA, it said and, contrary to the CC’s predictions, DFDS continues to operate successfully in the market.
