Chimp retires to Dorset with a little help from DHL

[ August 23, 2024   //   ]

DHL Express has moved a partially disabled orphaned chimpanzee to a new home in Dorset.

Chocolat fell victim to the Congo’s illegal bushmeat poachers 20 years ago, ending orphaned and with shotgun injuries that paralyzed hand and foot. She spent two decades in Kenya but has now found a long-term home at Dorset’s Monkey World sanctuary, in a new accessible home with lower platforms and nesting areas.

DHL Express moved Chocolat in a custom-built crate supported keepers, handlers, security and others keeping her supplied with fruit, nuts and sweet potatoes on the journey from Nairobi to East Midlands Airport on 15 August.

She is now being gradually introduced to six other chimpanzees in her new family.
