CLdN and Seatruck to serve Spain/UK via Dublin – updated
[ December 14, 2022 // Chris Lewis ]Shortsea carrier CLdN is to operate a new twice weekly schedule from Santander to Dublin from January and at the same time Spanish cargo for the UK market will be transhipped in Dublin onto the regular Seatruck Ferries service to Liverpool.
Seatruck Ferries, recently acquired by CLdN, will also deploying an extra vessel, the Seatruck Pennant, on the Dublin-Liverpool route.
Belgian—based CLdN says the change will increase capacity and offer simplified customs procedures, adding that the very low carbon footprint of its unaccompanied ro ro is a much greener solution compared with landbridge or road transport.
Head of sales Sjors Bosvelt said that while customs procedures are still needed to move goods from Dublin to Liverpool, “it is simplified compared to the landbridge solution, because T1s are not required and few Goods Movement References (GMRs) are involved. It’s also simplified compared to our current setup (Santander-Liverpool-Dublin) because fewer data elements are needed for the booking.
Chief executive Florent Maes commented:” The recent acquisition of Seatruck Ferries allowed us to make use of the synergies of both networks and we can now double frequency from the Iberian Peninsula to both Ireland and the UK by dividing the triangle service into two separate services. Since the Seatruck terminal in Dublin will be adjacent to CLdN’s as from late January 2023, we can make use of this unique position, which will be seamlessly connecting Dublin to and from Liverpool. Increased frequency will result in a big advantage for our customers, it will result in quicker turnaround times of their assets, and they will be able to deliver cargo more flexibly throughout the week.”
