CMA CGM signs Cuba deal

The CMA CGM Group has signed an agreement to operate a logistics platform in cooperation with Cuban company, AUSA. The deal, the first of its kind involving an international company, was signed by vice-chairman, Rodolphe Saadé in the presence of French president François Hollande, the President of the French Republic. It includes operation and development of a logistics platform at the port of Mariel and will be part of the local special economic zone project – a 4,600ha logistics and industrial project area.
The French company’s CMA CGM LOG logistics arm will operate a 17ha logistics platform with AUSA, including 12,000sq m of warehousing and 5,000 cu m of reefer capacity.
CMA CGM LOG will be in charge of unbundling and distribution of goods on the island, export consolidation and related activities.
CMA CGM has been present in Cuba since 2000 and is one of the only three shipping companies to call the country.

Vice president of freight forwarding and logistics activities, Mathieu Friedberg, commented: “Mariel is a first step in Cuba’s land logistics development. It is also a new step in the acceleration of CMA CGM LOG’s international development.”
