Coming, ready or not: VGM
[ June 28, 2016 // Chris ]The International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCAd the International Maritime Organisation have IMO issued a circular letter warning the industry of a mistaken belief that the container verified gross mass (VGM) regulations have been deferred for three months until 1 October. The confusion has arisen because IMO has stated that there will be a ‘grace period’ but this applies only to transhipment cargoes. It will still be a requirement to obtain the VGM for the packed container either using Method 1 or Method 2 from 1 July.
The World Shipping Council, the TT Club, ICHCA and the Global Shippers’ Forum (GSF) have jointly released a second set of frequently asked questions on theVGM regulations.
