Councillor takes council to Commission over port fees

Thanet Green Party councillor Ian Driver has referred the council to the European Commission for allowing the bankrupt ferry operator TransEuropa to run up £3.4m of debt by delaying port charges, saying that it was unauthorised state aid. The council said the debt was not state aid and did not need EC consent, saying it had been providing temporary financial support to TransEuropa since March 2011.
