Craner Swift and U-Crane Bolt are quick off the mark
[ October 8, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Peel Ports Clydeport has officially unveiled Greenock’s new £25m ship-to-shore cranes at a ceremony to celebrate the biggest-ever investment in the Scottish west coast gateway’s container facilities.
The cranes arrived at the port in June this year and have been fully operational since July following testing. A competition for the 72m tall cranes among local schoolkids resulted in their being named Craner Swift (a nod to Taylor Swift and U-Crane Bolt (Usain Bolt).
One vessel has already departed 13 hours ahead of schedule thanks to their quicker turnaround time.
Port director, Jim McSporran, said: “It’s clear to the human eye how much quicker they are, and we’ve had a great response from customers and our teams on the efficiencies they’re bringing. With so much pressure on supply chains, it’s invaluable for our customers to know our operations are even faster now.”
