Cross-border M&As still strong, says accountant
[ February 10, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Mergers and acquisitions in the UK logistics and supply chain management sector remained lively in 2022, despite activity falling from a record in 2021, says accountancy and business advisory firm BDO.
Moreover it added, in a fourth quarter report published on 10 February, 60% of deals were cross-border – the highest number since 2016 – demonstrating that the interest from international buyers remains high. The reported added that a quarter of transactions in the year involved direct investment from private equity, with acquisitions by PE backed businesses leading to further consolidation in the market.
BDO added that its annual Logistics Confidence Index report, published late last year, indicated that almost half of logistics operators were likely to make an acquisition in the coming 12 months and the uptick in activity bears this out.
Prominent deals in the fourth quarter of 2022 included DFDS’ acquisition of the Northern Ireland headquartered logistics group, McBurney Transport Group and the sale of Dorset-based Astral Couriers, to CitySprint.
