Customs deal speeds Euro clearances

[ February 22, 2022   //   ]

Nottingham-headquartered forwarder Baxter Freight says that transit and clearance times to Europe have decreased, one year on from signing a strategic partnership with Gerlach Customs. German import clearances for around 600 commodity codes took under an hour in December 2021 and there were also major efficiency gains in Rotterdam, with large volumes of DDP clearances taking place quickly.

A two-day B2C distribution model delivered by Baxter Freight and Gerlach provides next-day delivery for UK to Germany shipments. Goods are injected directly into parcel carrier hubs in Germany within 24 hours of leaving the UK, leaving the following day for final customer distribution across Europe.

The two companies will continue their co-operation with new services in 2022.

Both companies have moved to 24-hour, seven days a week working.

Baxter Freight managing director, Peter Isler said that with the coming introduction of new customs rules for UK imports, the partners would launch an upgraded UK import product for palletised freight.
