Dachser launches Smart Landbridge to speed Ireland-Europe freight

German-owned forwarding and logistics company Dachser has launched a ‘Smart Landbridge Connect’ service to speed Irish exports to Europe.

Dachser Ireland offers up to 40 weekly departures to destinations in thirty-five countries. By using the UK landbridge, it says it can offer more flexibility, faster transit times, and more frequent departures compared to long ferry routes between Ireland and continental Europe.

The forwarder argues that direct ferry services between Irish ports and mainland Europe are limited in capacity and number of sailings, and are vulnerable to weather disruptions,  posing significant challenges for Irish exporters in European markets.

Dachser Ireland says it is the first major logistics provider to revert to pre-Brexit European service patterns.

Managing director of Dachser Ireland, John Van Den Berg, said: “By restoring a fast and efficient UK Landbridge option, Dachser is creating a competitive advantage for Irish exporters. By utilising a simple T2 transit procedure, Irish trade can move seamlessly through the UK for onward connection through the Channel Tunnel, allowing Irish trade to reach European destinations more quickly and efficiently.”,

He added: “Ultimately, it is our own network of offices in Ireland, the UK, and across continental Europe that enables us to provide the highest level of reassurance—something that is paramount to our customers.”
