Danish buy readies Rhenus for Nordic transformation
[ October 5, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]Rhenus has bought Danish road, sea and air transport specialist, Modul Transport. It specialises in European road freight groupage shipments and air and ocean cargo, with Rhenus Road Freight taking over both the Modul Transport and Modul Air Cargo divisions, which operate from Copenhagen and Vejle in Jutland.
Rhenus Group said the move would allow it to further expand its own European road freight network and offer its customers quicker lead times throughout the region.
Its move follows the acquisition of warehousing specialist DKI, which Rhenus took over at the end of 2022 and the recent acquisition of MTS in Sweden.
Rhenus says that the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel between Germany and Denmark, currently under construction, will transform the region’s logistics sector and a strong presence in Denmark is important to link trade with the wider region. The tunnel will decrease lead-times between Germany and Northern Europe significantly, transforming Denmark into an attractive market for investments and new company setups.
Managing director of Rhenus Road Nordics, Jakob Heden, said: “This is another step on our journey to grow into one of the big players in the Nordic market. Modul Transport’s experienced staff and their market presence fit perfectly with our development in the Nordics, and we look forward to integrating them into the Rhenus family.”
