Deep thinking in Zeebrugge
[ July 17, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]The Port of Zeebrugge handled its deepest-draught vessel on 17 July – the Ever Greet, with a draft of 16.3 meters.
The vessel, which was almost 400m long and 58.8m wide was carrying 17,989 TEU from Sri Lanka.
The current generation of Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCS), such as the Ever Greet, which carry up to 20,160 TEU, have a maximum draft of 16.35m.
Mayor of the City of Bruges and vice chairman of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Dirk De fauw – said: “This depth record proves that Zeebrugge – and by extension Port of Antwerp-Bruges – is ready for the largest and heaviest-loaded container ships in the world. Thanks to all the services that safely guided this record ship to our port.”
