DFDS freight stable in February

[ March 12, 2021   //   ]

Ferry operator DFDS says its freight volume in February 2021 for routes calling in the UK was 4%bove the same month in 2020 as the post-Brexit situation began to stablise. Total volume for all routes was up 4%. North Sea volumes were driven by added capacity and continued stabilisation of trade, particularly UK imports although lower UK exports increased the number of empty trailers coming back to the EU. Volumes on the new Ireland-France route continue to be ahead of expectations.

DFDS adds that it will open a new 12,000sq m warehouse in Wijchen, Netherlands in November 1 following its acquisition of Dutch part-load operator Huisman Group in December 2019, which has boosted its operations in the segment. Together with the existing warehouse in Wijchen, the new building will double pallet spaces from 20.000 to 40.000 collectively and significantly improve cross-docking operation.
