DFDS offers ro ro link to Egypt

[ November 6, 2024   //   ]

DFDS has launched a new direct ferry service between Damietta in Egypt and Trieste, Italy, the first route between these ports in around a decade. It will run weekly, from Damietta on Fridays and Trieste on Mondays with a sailing time of about 68 hours. The maiden voyage is scheduled for 29 November.

It will facilitate the transportation of mainly fresh vegetables and fruits, textiles and other goods from Egypt to Europe and various dairy, agricultural and industrial products from Europe to Egypt. DFDS says it offers a fast and cost-effective alternative to container shipping, particularly for perishables.

DFDS has signed a strategic partnership with Pan Marine Shipping Services for a dedicated terminal in Damietta.

Head of DFDS’s ferry division, Mathieu Girardin, said: “The new route aligns perfectly with our commitment to organic growth and solidifies our strong presence in the Mediterranean region. The service not only expands our network but also enhances our ability to connect communities and support local economies opening up opportunities for trade and stronger economic ties between the two countries”

Vice president of Pan Marine, Marwan El Shazly, added: “The launch of this new freight ferry route marks a major milestone for Egypt’s trade relations with Europe. We are glad to collaborate with DFDS in providing innovative and efficient transportation solutions.”
