Dover shows its mettle
[ September 23, 2021 // Chris ]The port of Dover’s general cargo terminal handled its largest ever steel vessel when the MV Almar – 197 metres long and 32.2 metres wide – discharged 7,200 tonnes of plate and beams for ParkerSteel.
Dover’s commercial and divisional manager, Karen Hayes, said: “Since our new cargo terminal opened just over 18 months ago, it has provided us with endless opportunities to continue to strengthen our facilities, customer base and team using the best technology and skills in the industry. We are now seeing such a diverse range of customers and cargo utilising our service – I’m really proud to see the hard work paying off on milestone days like today.”
ParkerSteel managing director, Dylan Alexander, added: “Sourcing steel over the past 12 months has been truly challenging for the industry and having such a reliable partner as the Port of Dover plays a vital role in building a stronger Britain. This partnership will also allow us to expand our uninterrupted offering of high-quality products at any scale.”
