DP World cleans up
[ February 5, 2019 // Chris ]DP World handled 71.4 million TEU at its global container terminals in 2018, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year on a reported basis and 2.9% on a like-for-like basis. Strong performers included London Gateway, Yarimca (Turkey), Prince Rupert (Canada), Dakar (Senegal) and Sokhna (Egypt). The UAE was softer due to the loss of low-margin business.
Closer to home, DP World London Gateway officially opened its newly refurbished seafarers’ centre on 5 February. The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock. The centre, which is located just a stone’s throw from the port, has been redecorated and improved to create a more ‘homely’ environment. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, television, pool table, comfortable seating and a vending machine to re-stock essentials such as phone cards and toiletries.
