DP World ready to roll in Rwanda

[ October 21, 2019   //   ]

DP World inaugurated its Kigali Logistics Platform in the presence of the Rwandan President Paul Kagame and DP World chairman and chief executive Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The facility has been operational since September 2018 in test mode, and has an annual capacity of 50,000teu. DP World says it could save Rwandan businesses up to $50 million a year in logistics costs, reducing truck-turnaround time from 10-14 days to three days.

The platform connects Rwanda to neighbouring countries as well as the ports of Mombasa in Kenya and Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. Railways from Mombasa through Uganda to Rwanda and from Dar Es Salaam to Kigali are also under construction and will have direct access to the Kigali Logistics Platform, which have the potential to further dramatically reduce logistics costs.
