DP World reveals green highlights
[ November 15, 2023 // Chris Lewis ]DP World said it had taken major steps towards greening its operations in its Sustainability Update, published on 15 November.
Highlights included the launch of a £250m class of new hybrid super ferries, P&O Pioneer and P&O Liberté, the greenest ships ever to sail on the English Channel and will cut fuel use by 40 per cent.
It also launched a Modal Shift programme earlier this year to move freight from road onto rail and adopted 100% sustainably sourced Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) at its Southampton logistics hub.
Next summerit will open a £350m all-electric new fourth berth at London Gateway – the first of its kind in the world and invest £12m in a fleet of eight new electric straddle carriers to service the new berth.
A few days previously, DP World and APM Terminals launched a joint global initiative to accelerate decarbonisation of the world’s terminals through the widespread electrification of container handling equipment.
