Drivers demonstrate
[ October 10, 2012 // Chris ]Up to 1,000 drivers organised by the ETF (European Transport Workers’ Federation) demonstrated in outside the European Parliament in Brussels on 9 October demanding greater respect for professional drivers. The protests, part of a wider series of actions by the International Transport Workers Federation, singled out poor pay, employers ignoring driver’s hours rules and the exploitation of drivers from Eastern Europe, together with a lack of controls and checks on operators. According to the ETF, E95% of non-resident drivers have to spend their rest time and weekends in their lorries and 80% are not paid for loading and unloading activities.
