DRS to run transpennine trial trains
[ February 17, 2025 // Chris Lewis ]Direct Rail Services (DRS) is running a trial trans-Pennine service from PD Ports’ Teesport terminal to Manchester. It is the first on this route to use the ultra-low-platform IDA wagons, which allow high-cube containers to be carried, despite bridge and tunnel restrictions on the route. Ultimately, a route upgrade will remove many of these restrictions but this will not be complete until 2030, whereas use of the low-platform wagons will allow high cube boxes to be carried immediately. The train is described as an open access service available to any customers.
