ESC appoints new chief

[ April 25, 2012   //   ]

The European Shippers Council (ESC) has appointed Paola Lancellotti as its new secretary general, filling a post left vacant by Nicolette Van der Jagt’s move to forwarder’s organisation Clecat last year. For the past six years Mrs Lancellotti was secretary general to the European Marine Equipment Council and prior to that was director ofthe Short-Sea Shipping Council of Italy.

ESC chairman, Denis Choumert, said: “It is an honour to welcome into the ESC such an accomplished individual, who will lead the ESC through an important time of growth for our organisation. I am sure Paola will stamp her own particular style of leadership on this organisation, necessary to increase our influence on the important issues affecting shippers today.”

Mrs Lancelotti added: “This organisation has a considerable reputation for tackling important issues head on and fearlessly, but also offering out the hand of cooperation and partnership in the interests of seeking solutions which are truly sustainable. Shippers across Europe face a number of challenges in the months and years ahead, from policies looking to reduce green house gas emissions from transport and their supply chains, a volatile and uncertain transport market, rising fuel costs, areas of poor service performance, and a precarious global market, to continuing security and trade compliance requirements. There is a renewed spirit of enthusiasm within ESC, of a stronger ESC.”
