EU Customs Union for Ulster?

The BBC is reporting that a leaked account of a meeting of EU diplomats this week suggests that Northern Ireland may have to abide by the EU’s customs union and single market rules if it is to avoid introduction of border checks after Brexit.

BBC correspondent Adam Fleming says that the suggestion appears to be at odds with comments made by the Northern Ireland Secretary, James Brokenshire, that it was “difficult to imagine” Northern Ireland remaining in either the customs union of the single market after Brexit.
