First voyage for green marine fuel
[ September 29, 2021 // Chris ]Unifeeder vessel ElbBlue has carried out the world’s first marine trial of liquefied synthetic natural gas (SNG) fuel. SNG is carbon-neutral and is produced using wind power.
During the trial voyage, the SNG fuel blend – produced by Kiwi’s Power-to-Gas facility in Werlte, Germany – was expected to reduce the ElbBlue’s carbon output by 56 tons on a voyage to St Petersburg compared to conventional liquefied natural gas (LNG).
DP World-owned Unifeeder has launched an Actual Emission Tracker, which allows users to calculate greenhouse gas emissions at the specific TEU level.
