Formula 1 adds Qatar SAF deal
[ November 28, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Formula 1 has signed a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) programme with Qatar Airways, following its previously announced deal with DHL. The combined investment in the two programmes in 2024 will reduce emissions by over 8,000 tCO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent), around 19% less than using traditional aviation fuel.
Formula 1 is committed to becoming Net Zero by 2030, which requires at least a 50% reduction in emissions, versus its 2018 baseline.
Qatar Airways Group completed an additional purchase of SAF for use in its fleet in 2024, which has resulted in a reduction of 19,000 tonnes of CO2e.
