Forwarding index falls but prospects are good

Danske Bank Markets says its European Freight Forwarding Index indicates a small drop in volumes in February compared with two months ago. The overall index of current volumes came in at 49 compared with January’s figure of 44. However, expectations are still for an increase in volumes for the coming two months.

The road index of 48 indicates lower volumes compared with two months ago, but the bank sees increasing volumes in the coming two months.

The Seafreight index of 52 in February indicates increasing volumes compared with two months ago. Expectations for seafreight came in at 50 in April, which is lower than March’s expectations figure of 52, and suggest unchanged volumes in the next two months.

The current Airfreight index of 63 increased from January’s reading of 43 and indicates a higher volumes compared with two months ago. Expectations for Airfreight came in at 67 for March, which implies higher volumes over the coming two months time.
