FTA calls on MPs to back Brexit deal
[ November 28, 2018 // Chris ]Freight Transport Association (FTA) deputy chief executive James Hookham called on MPs to vote in favour of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement at a meeting with the Prime Minister of businesses and trade associations at 10 Downing Street on 26 November.
He stressed that a No Deal outcome to negotiations is not an option which would be acceptable to the UK logistics industry. He said: “The number of trucks able to travel between the UK and Europe would be severely restricted and the ferry ports on both sides of the English Channel and the Irish Sea are not prepared for these changes and would not be able to cope.
“Ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement by MPs on 11 December would avoid all this happening by giving us the Transition Period; this would allow frictionless trade and transport would carry on as normal after 29 March until at least the end of 2020.”
FTA is holding a Getting logistics ready for Brexit event on 19 December 2018 in Central London: https://fta.co.uk/events/getting-logistics-ready-for-brexit
