FTA’s man in Ireland moves on

The Freight Transport Association’s General Manager for Ireland, Tom Wilson, retires from the association on 8 November. FTA said that in just over ten years with FTA, he had made a major contribution towards developing the association’s profile and influence in Northern Ireland, and his extensive experience has more recently been invaluable in the development of FTA Ireland in Dublin. Seamus Leheney has been appointed policy and member relations manager for Northern Ireland.

FTA’s managing director of business Services, Chris Thornton, said: “Tom Wilson has been highly influential with ministers, the Stormont assembly, government bodies and with the media, becoming the clear ‘go to’ person on all matters freight.  His work on Northern Ireland trade routes has now become the accepted plan for infrastructure investment, and his tireless campaigning and policy work has helped towards seeing operator licensing introduced in Northern Ireland after many years of lobbying.

“Tom’s more recent involvement with FTA Ireland has seen a period of growing membership and increasing policy influence and he leaves the organisation with good prospects for the future.”
