Gemini chooses London Gateway over Felixstowe
[ November 21, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Maersk is to pull its Asia/Europe service out of Felixstowe in favour of London Gateway as part of the move from its 2M agreement with MSC to the Gemini cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd.
In a statement Maersk said it was not pulling out of Felixstowe entirely from February 2025, as its non-Gemini services including Middle East and Transatlantic services will remain there.
It added that the decision was taken in the light of its ambition to reduce network complexity and improve reliability with fewer port calls per service. The Gemini service is based on vessels serving a limited number of major hub ports with feeders providing links to the remainder.
The Gemini announcement comes within days of London Gateway owner opening a fourth, all electric berth and announcing a £1 billion investment in berths five and six.
