German firm offers solution to piggyback rail conundrum

German rail operator TX Logistik (TXL) has demonstrated a new system that would allow normal road trailers to be lifted on and off piggyback rail wagons without additional strengthening. It demonstrated the NiKRASA transhipment system to customers at Oredea in Romania, saying that it was particularly applicable to the east European market where there are few craneable trailers. TXL has operated a five days a week rail service between Cologne and Curtici in Romania since spring 2018, transporting mainly megatrailers. The NiKRASA system uses a positioning aid and a loading adapter.
