German port to help steel maker clean up

[ December 6, 2024   //   ]

Finnish stainless steel firm Outokumpu is to invest €40 million in a biocarbon plant at the German Baltic port of Mukran. The material will be produced from secondary wood raw materials, delivered by rail, using an innovative high-temperature process and will be used to reduce emissions in the steel production process. The fine granulate will be shipped via Mukran to Tornio in Finland for further processing into biocoke pellets, replacing coal or other fossil fuels.
