Going with the grain
[ March 8, 2014 // Chris ]
Peel Ports has completed an £8m upgrade to the Port of Liverpool animal feed warehouse. The GAFTA- (Grain and Feed Trade Association) approved facility, now has a capacity of 140,000 tonnes and is dedicated to a single customer, global animal feed trader and stockholder Arkady Feed.
The port has invested in six new JCB wheel loaders and upgraded its automated grain facility control system. A major upgrade to the terminal management operating system by port technology specialist DBIS will include the automatic accrual of storage and handling charges, vessel discharge optimisation and the ability to provide real time key performance indicator reports on both operational and customer service.
The improved facility will mean customer Arkady can consolidate its regional imports on one central UK distribution centre, reducing cost and carbon in the supply chain.
