Government pledges £69m to boost Southampton rail freight

The Government has promised £69 million of funding for the first stage of the Oxford Phase 2 project to increase freight capacity between the Port of Southampton and the Midlands and North as part of a £401m package of investment in the railways. It also promised £317 million for the TransPennine Upgrade between Leeds and Manchester.
