Green machines at Felixstowe

The Port of Felixstowe has introduced its first electric-powered rubber-tyred gantries. The four cranes originally manufactured by ZPMC in Shanghai, have been converted by Kalmar, part of the Cargotec group. from diesel to electric primary drive in the first project of its kind in Western Europe. The greener machines are the latest in a programme of measures which has cut carbon emissions at the port by 12% since 2007, in line with a 30% target reduction by 2017.
