Group proposes trans-Pennine lorry shuttle trains
[ November 27, 2020 // Chris ]A group of rail experts is advocating building a trans-Pennine ro ro lorry shuttle linking the M1 and M60 motorways to relieve the A628 Woodhead road between Manchester and Sheffield as part of a comprehensive plan to revitalise rail services in the region. Network North, headed by House of Lords rail advocate Tony Berkeley, says it would create a stand-alone trans-Pennine freight network, has written to northern mayors urging them to consider its plans, which it says are more cost-effective and realisable that the North to South High Speed 2 proposal.
