Hitting all the right notes
[ June 28, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Logistics company Pulleyn is celebrating 25 years in dmoving Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras from around the world. The company has partnered with 15 of the world’s leading orchestras, including the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.
While rarely under the spotlight, logistics plays a crucial role in enabling tours to take place, and ensuring the safe transportation of delicate and often priceless instruments and equipment across the UK and Europe.
With orchestral equipment in each tour often worth tens of millions of pounds, Pulleyn draws on its decades of experience, meticulous planning and safe handling techniques – including the very latest temperature-controlled vehicles and, security systems , along with an in-depth understanding of international regulations.
And, in music, timing is everything. Scott Pulleyn, who leads the team, says: “A fully loaded orchestra could be invaluable, as its instruments are often made from rare materials such as Ivory, Brazilian Rosewood or animal skins. Ensuring product integrity from the first point of pick up through to installation is critical to reducing damage and adhering to pre-planned timescales.”
