Hospital ship work wins award
[ December 9, 2010 // Chris ]London-based insurance company Thomas Miller has won the Insurance Day Corporate Social Responsibility Award for its sponsorship of the Chauncy Maples Malawi Trust (see FBJ 2, page 4). The UK charity is renovating a 19th century ship as a clinic to provide medical services to the lakeside people of Malawi. Thomas Miller has already raised more than half of the target £2 million but it is still not too late to contribute. Work has started stripping out the ship in preparation for major hull work and the next step is to persuade the world’s maritime manufacturers to donate £800,000 worth of parts.
