Irish feeling flat

[ April 23, 2012   //   ]

Volume recovery in the Irish Ports and Shipping sector slowed in 2011 compared with 2010, according to the latest edition of the Irish Maritime Transport Economist, released on April by the Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO). Only dry bulk volumes increased by 5% year on year, while unitised traffic on the main ro ro routes saw  no growth in 2011, and the container sector endured its fourth consecutive decline, down by3%.

Exports of container traffic to key overseas markets in the US and Asia did though increase by 5%, driven by the performance of the chemical, pharmaceutical and food and drink sectors, in particular dairy and meat exports. Traffic volume demand to and from the UK remained flat.
