Liverpool 2 to open from April

The new Liverpool2 deepwater container berth will handle its first commercial traffic from about April, owners Peel Ports revealed at a reception at the House of Commons last night (23 February). Chief executive Mark Whitworth told the gathering that with berthing trials expected to take place during March and the ship-to-shore gantry cranes already installed, the first commercial boxes could be discharged soon afterwards.

Further traffic will be added as more automated transfer equipment is brought into use, and full operation is envisaged in about October.
