Liverpool handles Cosco call
[ October 15, 2018 // Chris ]The Port of Liverpool handled a vessel operated by China’s largest shipping line, Cosco on 17 October. The MV Jork was on a feeder service from Rotterdam. Peel ports described the call as “an important milestone”, adding that it would look to evolve the trial service into a permanent call.
Peel Ports chief executive Mark Whitworth, said: “The arrival of the MV Jork at Liverpool is positive news for the Port and is down to the strategic, dedicated approach we’ve taken to the Asian market in recent years.
“Our relationship with China has been incredibly strong for a number of years now, and the faith shown by COSCO in the capabilities and infrastructure of Liverpool shows how global perceptions of the UK’s shipping ecosystem are starting to shift.”
A delegation from Peel Ports also visited China to discuss phase two of the Liverpool2’s development as it continues to try to attract the world’s biggest shipping lines, whilst a senior commercial executive visit to Shanghai was due to take place on 5 November.
