Liverpool leads port improvement pack
[ January 19, 2024 // Chris Lewis ]Container dwell times at global hubs were reduced by 20% in 2023 compared with the beginning of the year, said visibility specialist Beacon in its Port Congestion Review for the year. Liverpool saw an improvement of more than 49% between January and December. But North American ports still struggled with congestion. South-east Asia was amongst the best performing regions.
China’s performance was however hindered by persistent congestion at the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, one of the busiest in the world, where congestion times averaged more than 9 days, although improvement was seen with congestion dropping below six days in November and December.
Transpacific hubs on the West Coast of North America continued to see congestion, with combined anchor and berth times averaging three days in 2023
